Canteen Assistant

Are you passionate about cooking and eager to grow your kitchen skills alongside experienced professionals? We are looking for enthusiastic Canteen Assistants with strong cooking abilities or a background in commercial food preparation to join our school canteen teams. We’ve provided community-based services at Woden Community Service (WCS) across Canberra for over 50 years. Our vision of “a caring community where everyone belongs” drives everything we do, supported by our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Hope, Responsiveness, Integrity, and Social Justice.

We deliver services across the ACT covering children, families, young people and seniors including housing and mental health services.

As part of our Social Enterprise team, you’ll play a key role in a meaningful initiative that provides hands-on training and nationally recognised competencies to young individuals facing employment barriers. Our team delivers professional services across canteens, catering, and home maintenance while fostering skill development in a supportive workplace.

Our Offer

  • Permanent part time appointment (25 hours/week)
  • Salary of $53,036.54 pa (pro-rata) plus 11.5% superannuation.
  • Salary packaging (up to $15,899 per year) plus meal and entertainment cards.
  • National EAP Service.
  • 12 weeks paid parental leave.
  • 15 days paid personal leave per annum (pro rata) for full & part-time employees.

Experience & Qualifications  

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality service.
  • Knowledge of food safety and WHS legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well and participate in continuous improvement.
  • High level of written skills, including the ability to complete documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated understanding of professional boundaries, privacy and confidentiality.
  • Current Driver’s license and have access to a roadworthy, registered and comprehensively insured vehicle for work purposes.
