Looking to meet new people, learn something new, improve your wellbeing or simply spend more time connected to your community?
Across Canberra, Woden Community Service and Northside Community Service offer a range of free and low-cost community programs designed to bring people together through shared interests, learning and fun.
Building Confidence Through Conversation
Volunteer-led English Conversation Groups run throughout the school term and provide a relaxed, supportive environment for people wanting to improve their conversational English. Participants come together each week to practise speaking, learn from one another and build meaningful social connections. Sessions are held at locations across the Woden region, including the Woden Community Hub, Woden Library and Hughes Baptist Church.
The groups have become a valuable space for newcomers and long-term residents alike, helping participants strengthen language skills while developing friendships and community networks.
Board Games Group
Sometimes the best conversations happen across a game board.
Northside Community Service’s Board Games Group brings together people of all ages and backgrounds for an afternoon of fun, laughter and friendly competition. Meeting fortnightly, the group provides a welcoming space for participants to enjoy classic favourites, discover new games and meet people from their local community.
Board games encourage conversation, teamwork, healthy competition and cognitive stimulation, all while creating opportunities for new friendships to form. As the group continues to grow, community members are even invited to bring along or donate games to expand the collection
