Free community meals across Canberra

Every month, Woden Community Service and Northside Community Service open their doors and set the table for two free community meal programs that are helping Canberrans connect, make friends and feel a little more at home in their community.

Whether it’s a warm community dinner at Westfield Woden or a welcoming lunch gathering in Gungahlin, these events are about creating spaces where everyone belongs.

More Than a Meal in Woden

On the third Friday of every month, community members gather at Westfield Woden for a free community dinner hosted by Woden Community Service with Helping ACT.

The dinners bring together people from all walks of life, families, older residents, students, newcomers to Canberra and anyone looking for a friendly conversation and a welcoming atmosphere. For some, it’s an opportunity to catch up with familiar faces. For others, it’s a chance to meet someone new and feel connected to their local community.

The simple act of sharing a meal creates opportunities for conversation, friendship and belonging. In an increasingly isolated world, these small moments of connection can make a profound difference.

A Place to Connect in Gungahlin

Northside Community Service hosts free community lunches in Gungahlin with the Salvation Army Church, creating another welcoming space where residents can come together over food and conversation.

The lunches provide a relaxed environment for people to connect with neighbours, build new friendships and strengthen community ties. Community members are invited to come as they are, enjoy a meal and be part of an inclusive and supportive gathering.
